Flower's Promises

By Darlene Torday

Purple and yellow crocus bloom through the snow

Their colors standing out against the white glare

The ground warms

The hyacinths have their turn next

Daffodils and tulips greet the spring day

The trees with their flowering buds

Dot the landscape with blooms

The promise of fruit in each blossom

Soon rhododendron, azaleas, lilacs show their colors

Spring has arrived in full force

Roses start the summer off

Their showy blooms in colors of red, yellow, and white

Mixed with the exotics of blue, green and purple stripes

Summer heat brings flowers of their own

Daisies, cone flowers and brown-eyed Susan's

Stand tall in the heat bringing color to the landscape

On a simmering day

Soon fall is knocking on the door

The flowers start to fade

The blooming chrysanthemums show off their fall colors

The rusts, yellows, and purples mixed with white

Finally, the snow covers them over

Until once again spring arrives

Letting the crocus bloom

Showing us, spring is on its way
